Sugar Junkie Blog by Rebecca Hill

December 19, 2010

Okay, we are NOT going to discuss the night I drove through Randy’s doughnuts because I was “craving a maple flavored doughnut.” Nor are we going to discuss the day I went through the McDonald’s drive through to get some fries “because I was mad that I had to stand in line at the post office for 20 minutes.” What we are going to discuss is TODAY because today was a pretty good day.

Following up on our “Holiday Challenge” assignment from last week:

I meditated once this week. (But am still committed to making it a part of my daily routine.)

I did keep a food journal today:
No fat milk and a handful of almonds for breakfast.
Strawberry smoothie with protein powder for lunch.
Thin crust pizza for dinner (this is where the “pretty good” part of my day comes in).

How about you guys? How did your week go?

One of my friends who reads this blog told me she is too busy right now to work on the holiday challenge that Kiana and I have been putting together for y’all so we’re going to put that on the back burner for the next few weeks. We’re not abandoning it because meditation and tracking/ journaling our food and thinking about why we eat what we eat is important – VERY IMPORTANT – but Kiana and I are not grinches! We hear you that you need a little respite from our “Holiday Challenge Assignments” this week so let me just ask you a simple question:

WHAT DO YOU WANT SANTA TO BRING YOU THIS YEAR?

I asked this question to several women I know and here’s what they said:

Mamatha said she wants “to learn patience and understanding.”

Maryanne said she wants Santa to bring her, “a stress free family environment” and my fellow Curves trainer, Candice, said she wants to “eat everything and gain zero pounds!”  (Wouldn’t that be nice!?!)

A beautiful woman named Marsi said she wants “to radiate love into the world.” When she told me this I said, “Wow, very cool. I was expecting health and fitness responses but this is awesome too!” Marsi said, “This is a health and fitness goal. I’m tired of being so critical. When I say I want to radiate love into the world, I mean for others and for myself. If I can focus on love, I think I can create really positive scenarios in my life – health and fitness wise, and otherwise.” That really sunk in to my heart – I’ve actually been thinking about Marsi’s response all week.

The glamorous, Nicole said she wants her “sanity.”

And, Rudolph – well, Rudolph said he wants Santa to “browse through Kiana’s website and lose a few pounds pronto so that damn sleigh isn’t quite so heavy on Friday night!” (I’m not making this up, I’m simply reporting what the red-nosed superstar said when I interviewed him.)

So, Kiana and I’ve heard from Mamatha, Maryanne, Candice, Marsi, Nicole and Rudolph. Now, WHAT SAY YOU?

  1. I'd like an all expense paid trip to Hawaii with George Clooney as my companion. Fat chance I'll get it but that's what I want!

Seriously ... I'd like more time with friends and family, to find the love of my life, lots of laughter, a clone of my sweetest cat, world peace, love, kindness & hope for all ...

If all that fails I'll take a pair those gloves where your fingers poke out, but you can transform them into mittens!

  2. I would like my 19 year old butt back. I really do miss it. The one I have now is a bit droopy and jiggles a bit too much for my liking....

  3. I don't want Santa to bring me a thing. He can however, take 15 or 20 pounds away from me. Preferably before February!!!

  4. I want Santa to bring me the following qualities: The AEIOU's.
A is for Attitude - Choose to have a good attitude about healthy food choices.
E is for Effort - Put effort put into following my fitness program and weight loss goals.
I is for Improvement - Improve even just a little bit every day!
O is for Opportunity - Find opportunities to eat right and stay fit (like going to Curves)
U is for Unselfishness - Be happy and supportive of friends and family who are succeeding at being fit and eating healthy also, like Kiana (even if you've had an off day).

OK, so I didn't come up with this on my own; I learned this at my daughter's water polo camp this past weekend from a UCLA sports psychologist re: what a participant in sports has control over. BTW Rebecca, Great blog. I loved the photos!

  5. Hi Fit Gals! What a terrific blog, Rebecca! You are one talented writer my blonde friend! Thank you for the signed copies of Chicken Soup the New You! Just hilarious the Cheeseburger in Paradise Story! Okay so I just added my "Dear Santa I want...." image. Sorry so late, but um, been supa busy. Had 30 people over for sit down early Christmas dinner....still finding glasses in our plants??!! What? Are we still in college? And I am embarrassed since it was only family and close friends.... Oh well, perhaps they had 1 too many low fat eggnogs.

What do I want for Christmas? Well, being the TYPE A Fit Mom I am....I want quite a list..... I would have to say Time, Time Management (OR a cloning machine) and for everyone to be healthy, happy and Fit!

    RE: Time/Time Management/Cloning Machine:
I want to spend every second playing with my kids, working out, coming up with healthy recipes, decorating the house and redecorating the house, writing books, creating new fitness shows for TV and more DVDs.... There are so many wonderful things I want to do, share, fulfill that 24 hours just isnt' enough time.

I truly need to clone myself. So if that cannot be done, than I'll have to say I want better time management from Dear Old Santa......

    RE: Healthy, happy, fit world:
I believe that people would treat each other better if they were happier with themselves. I believe that a little bit of health and fitness goes a long way to helping people feel good about themselves.

  7. Thanks for taking the time to post a comment, Cindi! I never heard of "gloves where your fingers poke out, but you can transform them into mittens"...but I'm intrigued and will start looking for them immediately! :-) On a more serious note, I notice that your "serious answers" all have to do with love...finding the love of your life, wanting a clone of your sweetest cat (who you loved) and wanting more kindness and love in the world. I'm so glad you wrote all of that because I think sometimes writing our desires down somehow signals to the Universe that we're ready for these kinds of blessings. I'm not sure how it all works (who is!?!) but I think writing down what we want (even if it's in a note to Santa!) is a great way to draw these kinds of positive things into our lives. Good post!

  8. Okay, Samantha - now you've got me thinking about my "19 year old butt." I just got out some old college photos; acid-wash-cut-off-denim short-shorts. No cellulite (thanks to working out 3 hours/day at that time.) Funny thing is, I remember thinking at the time that I looked too heavy. Ridiculous! Can't go back in time and tell myself to "take it easy on my soul" but I can focus on today (and my 41 year old butt) and tell myself to "take it easy on my soul." I know you're just joking in this post (and it is totally funny!) but, on a serious note, do remember to take it easy on your soul and be kind to yourself! (just in case Santa does not bring your 19 year old butt back to you Friday night)

  9. Oh, Roxy - if only Santa could do that, that would be great! But, as the saying goes: "Santa helps those who help themselves!" Be thinking about your New Year's resolutions - that will be next week's post. Would love to hear if you have any interesting new year's resolutions that will help you get to your goal! Thanks so much for taking the time to post a response!

  11. Glasses in your plants? Wow, that must have been some party! So sorry I missed it - seriously, I missed y'all but, as you know, I had to (got to) work! (I love my job!) :-) I spoke with Santa earlier this evening - he said he's fresh out of "cloning machines" but that he too wants "everyone to be healthy, happy and Fit!" and he knows just the perfect Elf to help him make that happen (that would be you!) Seriously, Kiana, I know I speak for everyone when I say we all appreciate you being such a great role model and offering such amazing advice! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Love, CB (Dear Readers: I'll explain why Kiana's nickname for me is "CB" in one of my upcoming posts... hint: "CB" stands for cheeseburger...more later.) XO, Rebecca

  12. I love that you are wishing for romantic time with your hubby! I know being a mom must keep you very (very!) busy but it's so great to see you want time alone with your husband. Good post, Careen - I hope Santa is reading this blog and will bring you your heart's desire!
