Kiana's Fit Mom CORE Tricks

I love tips and tricks that can easily be done throughout the day. Better yet, here are my favorite tricks to do while you are working out. It doesn't require any more time, but will give you faster results.  Since you are "changing up" your regular exercises and routines, you are making your core work harder and more efficiently.  Here is how you do it...

Motivating millions around the world!

Focus on each and every exercise you are doing. Visualize your muscles literally contracting and releasing with every rep. Concentrate on feeling the muscles work from your "nose to your toes."

Close your eyes when you do abdominal floor or fitness ball exercises. Visualize your abs contract and release and focus on your abs doing all the work-not your arms.

Hold a heavier dumbbell in one hand when doing strength training exercises like side raises, shoulder presses and biceps curls. The instability will naturally cause your mid section and core to work harder to keep your body balanced.

Perform standing exercises on 1 leg as opposed to both legs. Maintaining your balance will strengthen the muscles in your calves, hamstrings, glutes and abs more so than with both feet on the ground.

Motorcycle Fit Mama

Yes, Fit Moms. I do ride. I don't like being "the Fit Chick on the back of the bike" - I like to ride.  I don't get to as much now post kiddies, but as soon as my youngest goes to preschool and I have a few hours to myself....I'm off on my Harley with the hubby!  As your Fit Mom, it's funny to me when men assume I ride a "smaller motorcycle, not a full size one." Go Fit Moms!
This post is in response to the thousands of Google searches for "Kiana's Motorcycle."  This is my 1st baby. I love, love, love my motorcycle. Just haven't had much time to ride her lately.  My Harley and I were featured on Steel Dreams TV and Hot Bike Magazine and countless interviews and TV spots!  Here are the details......

Kiana Mini Meal: Parsely Pesto Shrimp

We love summer! We barbecue a few times per week and enjoy healthy food, relaxing music and time with our family.  We love hanging out in the back yard, looking at the blue sparkling ocean, feeling the warm breeze and relaxing in the shade of the palm trees.  Here is one of my favorite Grilled Shrimp recipes. As you know, I love recipes that are simple to prepare, require a minimum of high quality ingredients, that are easy to clean up. This Parsley Pesto sauce is so easy to make and you can store the extra in the refrig for up to a week.

Kiana Mini Meal: Turkey High Protein On the Go

Here is one of my favorite recipes! I make this every week and keep it in the refrigerator to add to lettuce wraps, in taco shells, in pita bread, put on pizza, or stuff bell peppers.  It's great for lunches and to put in air tight containers to enjoy with baked tortilla chips for lunch on the go. I love topping it with hot sauce, low sodium soy sauce or amino soy sauce.  You can use as much or as little of the ground turkey, brown rice, black beans or corn as you like.  You don't need to measure. I like extra turkey and veggies in ours...

Turkey Surprise:

Ingredients:
1 package extra lean ground turkey
1 red or green bell pepper
small diced onion or chopped garlic
1/2 cup frozen peas, frozen asparagus or any fresh veggies you like
1 can black beans
1 can corn kernels
low sodium soy sauce or amino soy
salt & pepper
brown rice-prepared according to package instructions

Directions:
Heat 1 tsp. oil in pan, add onion and garlic until brown.  Add ground turkey to pan and brown.  When brown, turn down heat and add diced bell pepper, frozen peas (or asparagus, broccoli...)corn, black beans, salt, pepper.  Fold in brown rice.

Tofu Protein Shake

We all know protein is a necessity for building lean muscle. I love TOFU. I will often add it to stir fry dishes to add variety, texture and protein with noodles and veggies. You find it in the grocery store in the cheese dept. Here is how to make your smoothies oh-so smooth and creamy...

What is TOFU?
Being of part Chinese decent, I grew up eating tofu. It is made of soy beans and is also called bean curd. The taste is very mild and you can use it in place of meat or eggs and add it to puddings and protein shakes!   There are different "firmness" to buy: extra firm: (for sandwiches or stir fry), firm: for eggs, silken: for puddings or shakes. Hope you enjoy it like I do!

Try adding TOFU to your protein shakes, it's an easy way to add variety and extra protein to your shakes! Because it really doesn't have a definite flavor, you can add it to every type of protein shake from fruit to chocolate.

Each 1/2 cup serving of tofu has:
10g protein - wow!
2g carbs
5g fat
1g sugar
88 calories

It's easy to strengthen your back and sculpt your arms with circuit training! It saves time and you burn more calories since you move from one exercise immediately to the next one. Here is a favorite routine I did today in the gym. Enjoy!

15 reps each. The last few repetitions should be very challenging to finish. Maintain strict form at all times. I love this circuit workout...
